Miguel Cabrera Named AL MVP By Wide Margin

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera won the AL's Most Valuable Player award after becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 45 years, beating Angels rookie Mike Trout by a larger wider margin than most anticipated.

Cabrera received 22-of-28 first-place votes and 362 points from the AL panel of Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Buster Posey Named NL Most Valuable Player

Buster Posey of the Giants was voted the NL's Most Valuable Player on Thursday after returning from a leg injury and becoming the first catcher in 70 years to win the league's batting title.

Posey received 27 of 32 first-place votes and 422 points from the Baseball Writers' Association of America, outdistancing 2011 winner Ryan Braun of the Brewers, who was second with 285 points.

Dickey Is First Knuckleballer To Win Cy Young Award

Two years after R.A. Dickey was the first player cut by the Mets in spring training, he now has a Cy Young Award on his résumé.

Dickey won the NL Cy Young on Wednesday, becoming the first knuckleballer to receive the honor, according to an ESPN.com report.

Price beat out Justin Verlander by only four points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Melvin, Johnson Named Top Managers

Bob Melvin of the Athletics and Davey Johnson of the Nationals have been named the Manager of the Year in their respective leagues.

Melvin beat out Baltimore's Buck Showalter for the American League honor in a close vote.

Johnson, who turns 70 in January, was honored for the second time. He was tabbed as the AL's top manager in 1997.

Trout, Harper Win Top Rookie Honors

Mike Trout and Bryce Harper arrived in the Major Leagues on the same day during the 2012 season and on Monday night they took home top rookie honors in their respective leagues.

Trout, 21, was the unanimous pick as the American League Rookie of the Year, while Harper, 20, edged Arizona pitcher Wade Miley 112 to 105 to win National League honors.

"It's pretty neat," said Trout.

For the first time, players learned the voting results when they were announced on television.

"My heart was beating a little bit," Harper said.

Beane Named Executive Of The Year

A's vice president and GM Billy Beane has been named Executive of the Year in Major League Baseball for the 2012 season, according to an MLD report on Thursday.

It's the second time he has been given the prestigious award by the Sporting News.

Miguel Cabrera Voted Top Player By Peers

Miguel Cabrera has been voted Player of the Year by his Major League peers.

"It makes you feel proud and makes you feel like you've got to work harder, you've got to work to get better," he said. "You've got to get better every year."

Cabrera beat out Andrew McCutchen and Mike Trout for the honor.
